A comparator is a device that applies the principles of optics to inspect a broad range of manufactured parts for quality control purposes. The machine magnifies the silhouette of a part which is then projected upon the screen so that two-dimensional measurements can be taken and compared to prescribed conditions. It’s an extremely useful item in any small parts machining shop or production line for your entire quality control team.
Comparators actually provide more crucial information than the basic dimensions - length and width. They’re used to help detect scratches, indentations and many other surface defects. The measuring method is called, non-contact, and is popular in industries such as scientific, automotive, aerospace, defense and a lot of other industrial industries.
As with other CNC machinery, this particular piece of equipment comes in two major types, the first being a horizontal comparator model. This model lets light travels horizontally across the stage and works well with parts that are held in a fixed location such as screws, castings or transmission shafts. Second is a vertical comparator model which allows light to travel vertically, best used with parts that are flat such as gaskets.
Easy to use.
Fixed reporting capability.
Complete graphical part display.
Choice of readout options.
Multiple lens magnifications available.
Less room for human error.
