Finishing equipment is an important part to any machining company as it offers a few major additions to any finish machined/milled parts. To start it cleans up the surface of finished product by removing burrs and machining marks, plus can add a final surface finish. A variety of techniques are used in this process, which can include precision grinding, vibratory polishing, bead blasting, filing, stoning and grinding/buffering. In addition, it is often possible to use tools like Chamfer and Corner Rounding End Mills to do this right on a CNC machine.
Heat treatment is also another commonly practiced way of finishing a product in machining. It involves heating and then cooling metals, mainly steel, under controlled conditions in order to change the hardness of the material. However, care must be taken as to not warp a part during this process. In fact in some cases, heat treatment has to be done before a part is finished so that any warping that may occur can be machined out.
Lastly a common use for finishing equipment is for coating purposes, which help to improve the appearance or function of parts. A huge variety of coatings/treatments are available which can add color and protection to a surface, which include: anodizing, parkerizing, bluing, plating, painting, powder coating and many more.
