Structure
All Meehanite cast iron construction with ribbed torque tube design and wide stance machine base provide excellent support and damping character. The 45 degree bed guide way angle maintains a minimal and constant distance from tool tip to guide way. The slant bed also ensures the chips and coolant fall directly into the chip pan.
All guide ways are rectangular type for unsurpassed long-term rigidity and accuracy. Each guide way is induction hardened and precision ground. The hardness is between 49 to 52 HRC. Turcite B is bonded to mating way surfaces and then hand scraped for perfect fit and center height. This material provides a low friction surface which virtually eliminates guide way wear. It also provides vibration dampening for better surface finishes. All guide ways are fully protected by heavy gauge stainless steel covers on both sides of the carriage ways.
The bed casting has channels that collect way lube from the Z axis into a separate reservoir. Waste oil tank can be conveniently drained.

The computer optimal design guarantees integral rigidity with compact structure. All castings pass finite-element analysis (FEA) test、every part carrying capability is under reasonable scope.
Spindle and Headstock

The robust headstock casting is mounted on the same ground surface as the tailstock to maintain perfect alignment and center height. The heavy- duty spindle is supported by 2 sets angular contact bearings in the front and 2 sets cylindrical rollers bearings at front and back.
Cylindrical roller bearings feature a large contact surface which ensures the highest rigidity for heavy loads and high surface finishes. All spindle bearings are precision NSK class P4 and are permanently grease lubricated.

The lathe features a 35 HP spindle motor with a
German ZF gear transmission in (1:5.5) gear ratio. The speed is up to 2,000 rpm. It has a 116 mm (4.6”) of bar capacity in diameter. The maximum spindle torque is 1,971 NM (1,454) ft.-lb. of torque at 125 rpm spindle speed.

Drive system
Each axis is driven by a large diameter HIWIN P4 double nuts ball screw with high rapid traverse rates and high feed thrust. The X & Z axis ball screws are preloaded for accurate positioning and thermal stability. The thrust bearings are precision class P4 NSK angular contact type. Ball screws are directly mounted to the AC servo motors without intermediate gears or belts to minimize backlash. Each axis has an electric torque limiter to protect the ball screw and minimize damage in case of a crash.

Turret

The turret features a large diameter Curvic coupling with a hydraulic clamp force. This heavy-duty design provides unsurpassed rigidity for heavy stock removal, fine surface finishes, long boring bar overhang ratios, and extended tool life. Turret rotation, deceleration and clamp are all controlled by a reliable high torque hydraulic Index Motor. Turret indexing is non-stop bi-directional, with a 0.5 second next station index time. The turret uses 1" OD shank tool holders and boring holder capacity is 2". Holders are interchangeable from station to station. ID tool holders can convert to a U-drill holder to eliminate external piping of insert drills. OD turning tools are securely fixed in position by wedge clamps.

Programmable Tailstock
Widely spaced guideways and heavy-duty design of the tailstock body ensure ample rigidity for both slender and heavy shafts. The quill diameter is 130 mm (5.1"). The quill stroke of 100 mm (3.9") is activated by foot pedal or program. A precision, heavy duty MT #5 live center is provided as standard equipment.
